ON BRITTLE FRACTURE OF WELDED STORAGE TANKS AND OTHER STRUCTURES

Abstract

The reasons for brittle fracture of welded structures are investigated. The conclusion is derived that increasing the cross section of components is not effective in preventing this type of failure. Ways of increasing structural strength without the use of additional metal are investigated. (Author)
