SPECIAL DEFLECTION SYSTEMS FOR CATHODE-RAY TUBES

Abstract

Deflection of an electron beam in a travelingwave cathode-ray tube can be accomplished in many ways. Of the methods discussed, a modification of the Pierce system is suggested that would enable a progressively larger deflection voltage to be applied to subsequent elements of the deflection system, without producing a nonlinear response. An initial investigation into the design requirements of such a system was carried out. A simple method of using a distributed amplifier as part of the deflection circuitry was atte pted. Although the output of the distributed amplifier was broadband, the outputs of the individual tubes could not be used because of unfavorable phase relationships. (Author)
