CERMET ELEMENT RESISTOR REFINEMENT PROGRAM

Abstract

A total of 468 single turn variable resistor controls were tested consisting of 36 each of 13 part numbers representing three styles. Testing was based on a maximum temperature of 275 C with full wattage rating at 125 C and onehalf wattage rating at 200 C. A minimum of 78 controls of various resistances and styles were tested at each test condition. Excellent stability in regard to resistance change was obtained on soldering effect, load life at rated temperature, load life at elevated temperature, thermal stability, temperature coefficient, low temperature operation, low temperature storage, temperature cycling, acceleration, shock and high frequency vibration. Problem areas encountered were those of contactor pressure, contactor material and erratic torque. (Author)
