AVIATOR ESCAPE SYSTEM TRAINING

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to investigate Naval escape system training needs and to provide information upon which recommendations could be made to improve training procedures and devices. These data were gathered by means of a literature study; a Pilot Questionnaire; interviews with equipment manufacturers and training specialists; review and analysis of ejection accident data; and a training film survey. Recommendations were made regarding: the standardization of equipment and procedures involved in ejection, parachuting, ditching and survival; dissemination of accident information to all pilots; added realism in training devices; and a more holistic approach to escape training.
