DEVELOPMENT OF A HEAD-MOUNTED CAMERA FOR RECORDING PILOTS' EYE MOVEMENTS

Abstract

To fulfill the need for a satisfactory method of evaluating visual performance, a compact, headmounted camera was developed which records simultaneously the pilot's eye movements and a portion of the field of view in the direction in which his head is pointed. The head-mounted pilot eyemovement recording camera contains a 16 mm movie camera with rotating disc shutter, 9.5 mm (f2.2) Angenieux wide-angle lens, and 100-ft film capacity. The entire unit, including film, weighs 4.5 lbs. It is electrically driven by an internally regulated 28-v motor, and is activated by a bead-chain drive. It may be operated from either aircraft power or a camera battery pack. (Author)
