INVESTIGATION OF WATER-POND ARRESTING OF A DYNAMIC MODEL OF A JET TRANSPORT

Abstract

An investigation was made to obtain data which would aid in determining the practicability of using a water-pond arresting system for airplane runway overrun. Tests were made with several water-pond configurations, water depths, and airplane entry speeds. The water pond could stop the model for most of the test conditions, although there was some damage to the model at the higher water entry speeds. (Author)
