SOLID STATE IMAGE INTENSIFIER FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Abstract

An investigation was made to study the feasibility of using solid state x-ray image intensifier in the field of industrial radiology. An analysis was made of the particular requirements the intensifier must satisfy to be useful in the field of industrial radiology. The techniques of making fine-grain panels were developed to the point that 6 in. x 6 in. intensifiers were made with a satisfactory yield. The technique of electronic erasure was demonstrated with some success. Penetrameter tests performed with 1/2 inch steel plate and using 350 kv x-rays demonstrated that the fine grain intensifier has b tter detail and contrast sensitivity than a typical fluoroscopic screen.
