SPEECH ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES

Abstract

Research was concerned with preparations for the digital computer program for calculating all components of the separate filter units. Methods for routine tuning of the filterelements have been designed. Temperature stability and other drift problems have been looked into further. Spectral matching techniques were adopted for pole-zero matchings of spectra of sounds in various inter-vocalic positions. The results have been given a ph siological explanation. Observations have been made on relative vowel length as a cue for the distinction between monosyllabic and disyllabic words. The work on pitch frequency measurements has included a pilot study for comparing methods of pitch pre-emphasis and detection. Speech material from 4 males and 4 females was processed and oscillographically analyzed. (Author)
