IONIZATION AND EXCITATION OF NEUTRAL OXYGEN IN THE VICINITY OF HOT STARS

Abstract

Relativee populations of excited and ionized levels of oxygen are computed. The investigated system includes a B2V star surrounded by a spherical envelope, located at a distance of three stellar radii from the center of the star. The envelope is opaque to the Lyman continuum and lines, but is transparent in the Balmer continuum. Following transitions have been considered: radiative transitions between discrete levels, photoionizations, collisional excitations and ionizations, and recombinations. (Author)
