SILANOLS

Abstract

The synthesis and properties of silanols compounds containing OH groups directly connected to the Si atom are described. In view of the affinity of the Si atom to O there are organosilicon compounds containing 1, 2, and 3 OH groups connected to the Si atom. These compounds are subdivided into alkyl(aryl)-silanols expressed by the general formula R3SiOH; disilanols R2SI(OH)2; and trisilanols RSi(OH)3. Of the above mentioned compounds, trialkyl (aryl) silanols have been studied the most. The latter are highly reactive compounds of great practical and theoretical significance. (Author)
