A TOOL FITTED WITH POWDER CERAMIC BLADES

Abstract

The application of a new powder-ceramic tool material (based on Al oxide and designated TsM332) in metal machining is discussed. Recommended tool geometry and methods of attachment are presented as well as cutting speeds and feeds. The use of hard alloy cutting tools is discussed and compared with diamonds as a material for cutting tools. Mechanical machining of very hard materials by ultrasonics is described. The machining of Ti alloys, Mo, and Mg is discussed.
