FORGING AND PRESSING OF HEAT-RESISTANT ALLOYS

Abstract

Metallurgical factors which influence the behavior of ingots of heat resistant alloys during forging are reviewed. These include the effects of additives to the base alloys of Fe, Ni, Co,AND Cr; heat treatment; temperatures and pressures employed; vacuum melting; pouring techniques; and the size of the ingot. The optimum forging temperatures of a number of alloys are presented. Forging techniques employed by English and American factories are reviewed.
