CHEMISTRY, TECHNOLOGY AND CALCULATION OF THE PROCESSES OF MOTOR FUEL SYNTHESIS
Abstract
Various fuels were evaluated with respect to their possible use in gas turbines. The following characteristics were used as a basis: (1) pumping properties of the fuel under any operating conditions; (2) dependable starting of the engine at low temperatures; (3) stability of burning under any conditions; (4) highest possible heat value; (5) smallest possible size of combustion zone; (6) smallest possible harmful influence of the combustion products on the walls of the chamber and the turbine blades; and (7) safety of the fuel. A detailed description is given of the physical and chemical properties of hydrocarbons that enter into a modern fuel composition and those of the alkene hydrocarbons, which may be used as fuel components in the future. For producing jet fuels the development of aklylation, polymerization, and other processes is recommended in order to obtain products which boil in the same range (65 to 300 C) but are more suitable fuels for modern jet aircraft.
