A NUMBER OF RESULTS FROM STUDIES OF DIGITAL FILTERING AND THE CONVERGENCE OF ITERATIVE TECHNIQUES

Abstract

Results are collected from various studies that were motivated by the problems associated with estimating ballistic trajectories from tracking data. Material is given in the following areas: discrete orthonormal polynomials; digital filtering based on the eigenvector of the noise correlation matrix; digital filters for smoothingA LINEAR TIME FUNCTION FROM EXPONENTIALLY CORRELATED NOISE; CRITERIA GUARANTEEING CONVERGENCE OF Newton's method in one variable and a modified Newton's method in several variables; and a new and unique, but apparently inapplicable, approach to the smoothing of tracking data.
