THE MICROSCOPIC MEASUREMENT OF CRYSTALLIZATION RATES

Abstract

Relationships are discussed for determining the rates of crystallization of polymers by microscopically measuring the rate of increase of the radius of spherulites. Corrections to the equations are suggested for thin films in the following cases: (1) the absence of impingment by the surface or neighboring spherulites; (2) when impingement occurs; (3) for a truncated spherulite; (4) for 2 truncations of the same sphere; and (5) for overlapping truncations.
