PRESSURIZATION-THRUST RELATIONSHIPS OF VISCO-ELASTIC FLUIDS

Abstract

A study was made of the utilization of a bipropellant thrust chamber for recoil compensation in a portable flamethrower. There are presented preliminary design studies of a small bipropellant rocket using the propellant combination of unsymmetrical dimethyl-hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide. Also presented are system schematics suitable for use in modifying the test apparatus at the Army Chemical Center in order to permit demonstration of the feasibility of this concept. System response requirements are discussed in terminology appropriate to rocket systems. Typical transient characteristics of rockets suitable for this application are described. Methods for controlling the operation of various parts of the flamethrower and the rocket are discussed. Finally, instrumentation requirements for the test apparatus are examined. (Author)
