THE CHARACTERISTICS AND APPLICATION OF A SIMPLE QUARTZ MICROBALANCE

Abstract

The characteristics of several quartz microbalances are studied. The sensitivity of these balances was observed as a function of load. A comparison is made of the behavior of balances with 0.070 in. and 0.030 in. beams. The added utilit of a balance whose sensitivity varies not too sharply with load is discussed. Further information is presented concerning the application of the vacuum microbalance to surface and sputtering investigations. (Author)
