REACTIONS OF AZIRIDINES WITH ALCOHOLS

Abstract

The reaction of 1-(p-chlorobenzoyl) aziridine in excess EtOH was studied, varying the acid catalysts. A rate study was done at 30 C using varying amounts of H2SO4. The isomer distribution of 2-methyl and 2,2-dimethyl aziri ine and certain of their acylated derivatives was further investigated. Preliminary experiments with N,N'(1,2-propylene)-2,3,5,6-tetrachloroterephthal-AMIDE AND TRIETHYLENEGLYCOL GAVE EVIDENCE OF REACTION UNDER BASE CATALYSIS, AS INDICATED BY MARKED VISCOSITY INCREASES.
