ON THE POSSIBILITY OF USING ASTEROIDS AS POSITION INDICATORS IN INTERPLANETARY NAVIGATION

Abstract

OBSERVATIONS OF MINOR PLANETS FROM AN INTERPLANETARY VEHICLE ARE DISCUSSED AS A MEANS OF OBTAINING VEHICULAR POSITION INFORMATION. The accuracy attainable by such means is comparable or superior to that from midcourse observations of planets. Various advantages and difficulties of this procedure are cited. (Author)
