THE SOFT X-RAY CONTINUOUS SPECTRUM FROM LOW ENERGY ELECTRONS IN THE 80A-180A REGION

Abstract

The intensity distributions in the continuous spectrum of soft x-rays over the wavelength range from 80 A to 180 A have been investigated for various elements and accelerating potentials by means of a grazing incidence vacuum spectrograph with a concave glass grating in a Rowland mounting. Intensity distributions were calculated with the help of previously verified reflecting power coefficients for the grating. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the basic Sommerfeld theory where possible and found to be in good agreement. Details of the apparatus and an outline of the theoretical formulation are presented. (Author)
