ON THE MOTION OF A CHARGED PARTICLE IN A TIME DEPENDENT MAGNETIC FIELD

Abstract

The motion of a charged particle in a homogeneous magnetic field which varies linearly with time is investigated. An exact expression for the variation of the magnetic moment is obtained and is compared with the approximate results of Hertweck and Schluter. It is found that both analyses give the same asymptotic behavior of the moment for slow changes of the field, at least up to the second-order in the rate of change of the field. (Author)
