HEAT EXCHANGE DURING THE FLOW OF LIQUID METAL IN THE LAMINAR AND TRANSITION REGIONS
Abstract
An experimental investigation was conducted of the heat transfer occurring during forced flow of Hg in a circular pipe in the laminar and transition regions with constant density of the heat flux on the wall. The heat transfer was studied under conditions of hydrodynamic and thermal stabilization of the flux. The following conclusions were drawn: (1) due to the presence of grooves in the working sections of the apparatus a pronounced unevenness occurred in the distribution of the density of the heat flux per unit length of the pipe over the length of the section; and (2) the values of the Nusselt (Nu) number obtained in the literature are understated by comparison, and Nu depends on the Peclet number (Pe), in the laminar region.
