DEVELOPMENT OF CATAPULT, T13E2

Abstract

Development was undertaken on a series of catapult devices which would eject a crash-locator beacon from a distressed aircraft, either at the pilot's discretion or automatically upon crash impact. The T13E2 tapult, with the T127E2 cartridge, was the only unit in the series fully developed under this program. The first test models tested were of an open-tube catapult design. Although generally performing satisfactorily, these models could not meet certain Air Force requirements; hence therefore the opentube design was abandoned in favor of a closedtube system. Use of the closed-tube design resulted in successful development of the end item, which was designated as catapult, T13E2 with cartridge, T127E2. (Author)
