A SELECTED REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ON VISUAL RESPONSE TIME

Abstract

This report contains a review of the basic literature dealing with response time to single visual stimuli. Two similar types of measurement, simple reaction time and electrophysiological latency, have been included. These are discussed in the light of relationships to the following stimulus factors: luminance, exposure time, area, adaptation level and retinal locus. The nature of these relationships suggests that visual response time data offer a promising alternative to other psychophysical or psychophysiological measures. (Author)
