THE PLASTIC DEFORMATION OF A CANTILEVER BEAM WITH STRAIN RATE SENSITIVITY UNDER IMPULSIVE LOADING

Abstract

An analysis is presented of the plastic deformation of a cantilever beam with an attached tip mass, based on the assumption of rigid-plastic behavior with strain rate sensitivity, under an impulsive load at the tip. Numerical solutions of the equations of motion which appear as two non-linear simultaneous integral equations are presented. The possibility of power series expansion is also indicated. Finally, approximate solutions are given, and the results are compared with the more exact solutions and with experimental data. (Author)
