MOLECULAR CONFORMATION IN ORIENTED FIBERS

Abstract

A theoretical analysis was made of the molecular chains in an oriented fiber. The chains were considered to trace out a path on a cubic crystal lattice. The chain passes through amorphous regions in which the link vectors of the chain successively point in the 3-dimensional coordinate directions. The chain also passes through crystalline regions in which succesive link vectors all point in the + x direction or the -4 direction. This model corresponds to a fiber whose crystallites are completely oriented in the x direction.
