A BENCH SCALE METHOD FOR DETERMINING PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF LUBRICANTS IN AN OXIDATIVE ENVIRONMENT AT HIGH TEMPERATURES

Abstract

An effective bench scale method for determining physical and chemical characteristics of lubricants subjected to high temperatures in oxidizing environments is described herein. The apparatus employed is sufficiently simple and economical for even the smallest research facility. However, the methods developed and described herein are applicable for large scale programs. Data obtained from its use can be readily interpreted to indicate probable performance of experimental fluids and lubricants under the specific conditions used in the screening program. (Author)
