THE DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION OF A DYNAMIC SPECTRUM ANALYZER

Abstract

A survey is presented of the research work directed towards the study of radio burst emissions from the sun with a dynamic spectrum analyzer consisting of a series of sweep-fre-q ency receivers. Research is reported in 6 sections: (1) a discussion of the scientific purposes of the program, (2) a brief description of the radio equipment at Fort Davis, together with its manner of operation, (3) a survey of results obtained from analysis of spectral bservations of solar radio bursts; statistics of the various types of bursts, their association with flares and prominences, and their relation to emission of high energy particles from the un, (4) a summary of regularly published patrol data, (5) future programs, and (6) miscellaneous projects in Cambridge.
