SHELF AND SERVICE LIFE TEST ON PRIMACORD CHARGE ASSEMBLY

Abstract

The primacord charge assembly is designed to sever the elevator control rod on B-57A + RB-57 aircraft prior to seat ejection. The primacord charge assembly presently has a one year service life and a four year combined shelf and service life. Tests were conducted to determine if the shelf and service life of the primacord charge assembly could be extended beyond four years. The primacord charge assemblies were subjected to high and low temperatures; high humidity; sensitivity, impact and function tests. All assemblies functioned satisfactorily. As a result of these tests, it is recommended that the service life be extended to two years, and the combined shelf and service life extended to six years. (Author)
