INVESTIGATION AND EVALUATION OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE SNUBBERS

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate high pressure hydraulic pressure snubbers for Naval aircraft use and to prepare a specification and standard for their competitive procurement. The snubbers are devices which can be installed in fluid pressure lines for the purpose of preventing pressure surges, pulsations and oscillations in these lines from reaching the pressure sensor of an instrument where they can cause erratic operation or damage to pressure gages, transducers, and switches and produce gage pointer oscillation. Of the 7 snubbers tested, only one provided effective control of severe pressure variations in a gage line at room temperature, low temperature, and high temperature. This snubber was also satisfactory as to dimensions, weight, configuration, ease of disassembly, and method installation. Furthermore, it could not be adjusted externally. (Author)
