MULTIPLE ANGLE DIVERSITY

Abstract

Research is presented on two separate problems encountered in applying diversity techniques to improve the performance of communication systems. The first problem is the calculation of the performance of four models of idealized receivers. While similar calculations have been made previously the range of parameters is extended in the present work. Specifically, results are presented for the performance of a diversity system in which the input signal means may be different with or without correlation. The second problem is the analysis of a specific circuit (the Vector Combiner) for combining the several inputs to a diversity system. Although a complete analysis does not seem feasible in view of the many nonlinearities of the circuit, useful approximations are obtained for the case when the signal to noise ratio is large.
