TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF RAMAN RELAXATION OF CHROMIUM (PLUS 3) IN MAGNESIUM OXIDE

Abstract

The spin-lattice relaxation for Cr(+3) in cubic sites in MgO is due to Raman scattering of phonons above 30 K. Values of the relaxation time measured at temperatures from 30 t 100 KARE GIVEN. The data are explained well by an enhancement of the Raman scattering (above approximately 50 K) associated with chromium ions having a heavier m ss than the magnesium ion they replace. (Author)
