A RELIABLE, LONG-LIFE PENCIL TRIODE FOR A CO MUNICATIONS SATELLITE. uarterly progress rept. no. 8, 1 Aug-31 Oct 61, by A. M. Stanley nd L. P. DeBacker. 31 Oct 61, 15p. incl. illus. table. (Contract DA 36-039-sc-85253) Unclassified report Notice: Only Government Agencies may request from ASTIA. Others request approval of Army Signal Research and Development Lab., Fort Monmouth, N. J. Attn: SIGRA/SL-PRG. DESCRIPTORS: (*Triodes, *Frequency multipli ers, Microwave oscillators, Communication equipme t, adio equipment, Airborne, Radio co munication systems, *Satellite veh cles, De sign, Reliability, Life expectancy, ests.) Electron tubes. Identifiers: Pencil triode. The oscillator life tests on the pencil triodes were continued. RCA 5876 tubes have operated satisfactorily for more than 14,500 hours. The cathode-temperature tests have continued for over 3500 hours. It was demonstrated that, during the tripler life t st, a heater voltage of 3.2 volts is preferabl . The tripler life testing of twenty A-15203 tubes was also continued. The tubes have been operating for periods ranging from 2612 to 3625 hours, and no changes in tube characteristics were observed.
