REFINGING METALLIC LITHIUM

Abstract

Li obtained by electrolytic and heat-extraction methods seldom has a content of the basic substance above 99%. The following ways of obtaining pure Li are possible: chemical methods of the purification of original compounds, vacuum distillation, or rectification and zonal recrystallization. Some results in the refining of metallic lithium by distillation are discussed. Vacuum distillation lowers the content of Na and K in Li to 0.1%, but vacuum distillation with fractional condensation of the product lowers it to 0.01%. The rectification of Li assures the obtaining of a metal of high purity, above 99.99% pure. (Author)
