Efforts indicate that latent cavitation in wheels with an increase in the width of vane input originates and develops in the ring eddy formed by reverse flows at the input into the wheel. Experiments with cones showed that an artificial change in form of ring eddy can improve the anticavitational qualities of the wheel. Also, control of the cavitational processes, taking place in the zone of reverse flows, appears to be one of the possible methods of improving the disruption characteristics of centrifugal wheels.
