Studies on Rhenium Coordination Compounds - Hexaisocyaniderhenium(I) Salts (Part 1). Studies on Iridium Compounds - Isocyanide Derivatives of Iridium Carbonyl Derivatives of Iridium Iodides

Abstract

The reaction of ReI3 with p-tolylisocyanide at 150 degrees and with ethylisocyanide at room temperature gives the triiodide of the hexaisocyaniderhenium(I) cations (Re(RNC)6)(+). Both the aliphatic and aromatic derivatives are stable, diamagnetic substances, from which other salts as the iodide, the perchlorate, etc. have been prepared. From the reaction of Ir(CO) 2(ptoluidine) (Cl) with p-tolylisocyanide (RNC) the cations (Ir(CO) (RNC)3)(+) and (Ir(RNC)4)(+) were obtained in solution and isolated as salts with bromide, perchlorate and iodide anions. The reaction of IrI3 and IrI4 alone, and in mixture with KI, with carbon monoxide at high pressure gave the following products: (1) (Ir(CO)3I3); (2) (Ir(CO)2I3)2; (3) (Ir2(CO)3I6); (4) (Ir(CO)2I2); (5) Ir(CO)3I); (6) K(IrIII)(CO)2I3); (7) K(IrIII)(CO)I4); (8) K(Ir(III)(CO)2I4) (9) K(Ir(III)(CO)I5); and (10) K2IrI5.
