TRAINING AND ELECTRORETINOGRAPHIC RESPONSES

Abstract

A number of records are reported which seem to show a paradoxical influence of expectation on the electroretinographic responses. In particular, the initial records obtained from an untrained subject show a negative feature which tends to disappear during the various successive experimental sets, while the size of the positive feature tends to increase. It is tentatively suggested that the above reported changes correspond to the release, during incoming training, of central supression which is known to counteract the stimulation produced by intraocular scatter.
