NON-WAVEGUIDE TRANSMISSION OF MILLIMETER WAVES
Abstract
Research was continued on the development of nonwaveguide transmission of millimeter waves. Test results have demonstrated successfully that a free-space transmission system can be operated with much lower attenuation than a conventional waveguide system. It has also been shown that transmission around corners can be accomplishedAT ATTENUATION FIGURES LOWER THAN THOSE FOR STRAIGHT LINE TRANSMISSION. A number of devices including duplexers, directional couplers, attenuators, wavemeters, and reflectometers have been developed and operated in the free space medium. Theoretical computation of near zone fields and of transmission loss have only been commenced and no definitive results have been obtained. Future work in this field should include extension of the work to higher frequencies, development of additional devices and further pursuit of the theoretical computations. (Author)
