THE FLIGHT TESTING OF AIRCRAFT WEAPON SYSTEMS

Abstract

The flight testing of the airborne elements of the weapon system is dealt with for air-to-air weapons - guns, unguided rockets, guided weapons, and for air-to-ground weapons - unguided rockets, free falling bombs, guided bombs. This is a broad survey amplified, where appropriate, by some detailed test techniques. The assessment is taken through the stages of cockpit, engineering, aerodynamic and auto control, armament loading and carriage, navigation up to the zone of operation, through the attack phase and finally to impact accuracy. The process of assessment is summarised by a diagram at the end. (Author)
