INVESTIGATION OF MICROWAVE NON-LINEAR EFFECTS UTILIZING FERROMAGNETIC MATERIALS

Abstract

Investigation was continued of the non-linear effects in the microwave properties of ferrites and ferrimagnetic garnet materials. Emphasis was placed on determining parameters for efficient 2-mm wave generation and on determining feasibility and applications of ferrite parametric amplification. In addition, the feasibility of cw harmonic generation will be investigated. Two millimeter wave generation experiments using single crystal YIG and nickel-zinc ferrite are described. Slightly under 20 w of power was generated. Extensions in the theory of longitudinally pumped ferrite amplifiers are given. Measurements of the tuning curves and anisotropy of the signal and idler modes of a 21-kmc ferrite amplifier are described. (Author)
