ARMY AVIATION HELMET EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of hard shell helmets for preventing loss of life and injuries during Army aircraft accidents and to summarize user comments on helmets in current use. The wearing of hard shell helmets was credited with prevention of head injuries to 265 occupants of Army aircraft during the period studied. Factors of convenience and comfort, particularly heat retaining qualities, constitute major objections to wearing the APH-5 helmet.
