A TWO-ELEMENT HALFWAVE VLF RECEIVING ANTENNA ARRAY SYSTEM

Abstract

A description is presented of a two-element halfwave receiving antenna array system developed for use at very low frequencies (VLF). Each of the two elements consists of a loop-vertical antenna combination; one of the elements is located atA FIXED SITE, AND THE OTHER IS HOUSED IN A TRUCK WHICH IS MOVED TO DIFFERENT POINTS ON A CIRCLE OF ONE-HALF-WAVELENGTH RADIUS ABOUT THE FIXED ELEMENT. The mathematical basis of the system is presented, together with a full description of the system and the method used and results obtained in measurements of its antenna pattern. It is concluded that the system represents a feasible solution to the problem of obtaining both directivity and mobility in a VLF antenna array. (Author)
