THE ACTION OF PRISCOLINE ON GASTRIC SECRETION IN THE DOG
Abstract
Priscoline administration increased gastric secretion in the basal and hypoglycemic dog stomach. Simultaneous administration of either atropine, norepinephrine, or antazoline-tween 20 solutions diminished the gastric secretory response to priscoline. Priscoline caused a greater response in the resting than in the hypoglycemic stomach, but the agents used to decrease the priscoline action were more effective in the hypoglycemic state. It is tentatively concluded that priscoline induces gastric hypersecretion by cholinergic action, through adrenergic blockade and by histamine-like effects. (Author)
