HIGH AVERAGE-POWER R-F WINDOW STUDY
Abstract
The literature study and survey of the commercially available dielectric materials for window applications was completed. It was found that single-crystal synthetic sapphire, cut with the axis of the disc parallel to the C-axis of the crystal, is the best available material from the standpoints of mechanical strength and dielectric loss factor. High-energy electronic bombardment tests on sample windows of sintered alumina and crystalline synthetic sapphire were co plete . The final oven brazes of the hybrid coupler assembly, a component of the high-power resonator, were completed. Also, the high-directivity monitor coupler was designed, and a prototype model was satisfactorily tested. The high-power water load was designed, and a prototype model was completed. A nearly perfect match at the specified operating frequency was exhibited by the model. An investigation was made of the problems of sealing rectangular block windows. Satisfactory transmission characteristics were achieved on 2 prototype models of broadband disc windows. The operation frequency bands overlap slightly, with the test fre uency of 8.35 kmc in the region of overlap. (Author)
