HELICOPTER ROTOR-BLADE ICE DETECTOR,

Abstract

This report covers a study that was made to determine the operating characteristics and/or specifications for a rotor-blade ice detector. The effects of water droplet size, liquid-water content, and temperature on the rate of ice accretion were analyzed. The relative effectiveness and merit of current deicing techniques were investigated to determine their compatibility with ice detectors. As a result of this study, a ability of utilizing ice detectors on new models of Army helicopters. (Author)
