Service Test of Coupling Base T2E2.
Abstract
The test item is a two-part, plastic, coupling base designed to be used as a component of nonelectric firing systems that detonate explosives. The base part of the coupling, which contains the primer, has a conical section that fits into the flare on the blasting cap. The second part, the nut, has a matching conical section which fits over the blasting cap and binds on the flared end. The item is prepared for use by unscrewing the nut from the base, removing the shipping cup and replacing it with an M7 nonelectric blasting cap and then replacing the nut using a finger tight connection at the threads. Significant differences between the test item and the present standard item is that the former is plastic, made in two parts, and eliminates the requirement for crimping caps in the field when this coupling is used. The latter is a one piece base coupling, made of metal, and requires crimping of caps when used. The US Army Armor Board concludes that the Coupling Base, T2E2 is significantly superior to the standard one piece coupling and is suitable for field army use. (Author)
