ON THE FORMULATION OF FINITE DIFFERENCE ANALOGUES OF THE DIRICHLET PROBLEM FOR POISSON'S EQUATION

Abstract

OBTAINED IN THIS ANALYSIS ARE SOME ESTIMATES OF THE TYPE GIVEN BY Gerschgorin. A general theorem is stated which can be used as a guide in the formulation of finite difference analogues of the Dirichlet problem for Poisson's equation. Various examples are given and analyzed; included among these are analogues whose truncation error is shown to be O(h4). (Author)
