ON THE WILLIS METHOD OF FINDING SEPARATING SYSTEMS

Abstract

The questions of the existence and uniqueness of the solutions of the Willis method for finding separating systems for linearly separable functions of one, two, three, and four variables are discussed. It is shown that, although not all solutions are necessarily unique, the standard separating system is always contained within the the set. The method is applied by considering all possible linearly separable functions as divided into classes characterized by rank, dimension, and secondary numbers. (Author)
