SELF-REPAIRING MACHINES. PART TWO.

Abstract

The feasibility of self-repairing systems is examined. The system considered is strictly electronic and repair is by replacement. The primary emphasis is on the diagnosis function and the feasibility of self-diagnosing systems. This phase of the project has not yet reached the point where definite theoretical conclusions can be drawn. The only engineering conclusion that can be drawn from the examples is that self-repairing systems are extremely difficult to design, if not impossible. As a by-product of the effort, much has been learned about the diagnosis and diagnosability of sequential switching circuits. (Author)
