STUDY OF THE REFLECTING POWER OF THE MOON'S SURFACE

Abstract

The comparison o the intensities of the (2-0) bands of CO(+) (in the tail) and the (0-1) ban s of CN (in the head), at various distances from the nucleus, in bester's Comet (1947k) hasALLOWED T E DETERMINATION OF THE RELATIVE ABUNDANCES OF CO(+) and CN at less than 130,000 km from the nucleus. It is found t at the abundance o CO(+) in the tail is 30 to 40 times greater than that of CN in the head. If the abundance f r CN is taken equal to that suggested for C by Wurm, it i found that in the region f the head, che tail contains a number of CO(+) ions on the order of one million per cc.
